Raikkonen kicking himself over result

Kimi Raikkonen admitted he only has himself to blame for the set-up change that cost him the chance of a decent grid slot for the Indian Grand Prix. The Finn believes his Lotus had the potential to qualify right behind the dominant Red Bulls of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber, but a lack of grip left him down in seventh . "I thought that we should have probably been third or fourth here after Friday practice," said Raikkonen.

Reluctantly, I have to admit that it has been a while since my last blog entry, mainly because I?ve recently moved house. However, what I?m surprised to find is that extended broad band disconnection doesn?t even feature as a stressful life event… not even top 100! As you can imagine, I was amazed to be told by a reputable telecommunication service provider (the name of which will not be disclosed to protect the innocent untimely) that I wouldn?t be reconnected for… wait for it… half month! Lorenzo: Overcoming Honda very hard

Jorge Lorenzo declared his second MotoGP world championship incredibly hard to win, after clinching the crown with second place in Australia . Lorenzo's maiden title in 2010 was won in a year when Yamaha was the pacesetting team and his team-mate Valentino Rossi was ruled out for several races due to injury. This year Honda was often the quicker team, and Lorenzo had to fight a rearguard action to cling on to his points lead as Dani Pedrosa closed in.

Neiman Marcus Christmas Book McLaren special editions sell out in two hours

McLaren MP4-12c Spider Neiman Marcus limited edition parked in showroom

Apparently, despite the global economic downturn, some people out there still have large sums of disposable income. We know this because Neiman Marcus sold through a dozen special edition McLaren 12C Spiders in less than two hours Wednesday. At $354,000 each, this single offering grossed Neiman Marcus a staggering $35,400 a minute. Not that we should be surprised. Last year, the retailer sold 10 brand-new Ferrari FF specials out in a mere 50 minutes and in 2009, Neiman Marcus cleared out 50 special Jaguar XJ sedans in four hours and four minutes.

The retailer's annual Christmas Book extravaganza offered the supercar packaged with first-class travel to the UK, two nights at a five-star hotel there, a tour of the McLaren Tech Center and dinner with McLaren chairman Ron Dennis. Each car also includes matching luggage and a numbered stainless-steel badge. One of NM's high-rolling catalog shoppers will be able to say they own the very first McLaren 12C Spider sold to the public.

Neiman Marcus says customers should have their Spiders in time for unwrapping Christmas morning. Let's hope the fortunate recipients live some place warm and that their roads are clear enough to enjoy a truly happy holiday.

Video: CNN chronicles young girl building Pontiac Fiero

Fourteen-year old Kathryn DiMaria works on her Pontiac Fiero

At fourteen years of age, Kathryn DiMaria has already done what many self-proclaimed gearheads won't even attempt in their lifetimes. The Dearborn, Michigan teen is rebuilding a car from the ground up.

The intrepid youngster asked her parents when she was just twelve to start a Pontiac Fiero project, even offering to pony up all the funds herself. Father, Jerry DiMaria only expected the project to last a few months, but two years later, Kathryn is still at it. In this CNN video, the two are at Maker Faire (a DIY festival) rebuilding a 3.4-liter V6 engine out of a Chevrolet Camaro to replace the 2.8-liter mill found in the Fiero.

The whole family hast pitched in, with Kathryn's mother teaching her how to sew in order to complete the interior, father Jerry providing much of the technical know-how, and even her sister is chronicling Kathryn's progress through photos. Jerry even started a thread in a Fiero forum which has been live for two years and is now 22 pages long. Of the project, one forum member wrote, "welcome to the madness."

Apparently math and science lessons are coming into play in her project, hopefully putting an end to the "Why do I need to learn this?" argument, at least among her classmates. The lessons will hopefully allow Kathryn to follow her dream to become an engineer. The target date for the project's completion is Kathryn's sweet 16. You can check out her progress in the video below.

When they succeed, Americans get raises and promotions and, as all four are [...]

Rosenqvist wins, Juncadella retires

Felix Rosenqvist won the opening F3 Euro Series race of the Hockenheim season finale on Saturday, but a mechanical problem for Daniel Juncadella ensured that the title battle remains open. Juncadella challenged polesitter Rosenqvist for the lead at the Mercedes Arena on the opening lap, but was unable to pass the Swede, who defended strongly. While Mucke Motorsport driver Rosenqvist was able to pull away to a 5.6-second victory - his second successive win in the Euro Series - Juncadella looked set for a comfortable runner-up spot that would have won him both the Euro Series and the FIA European Championship

Report: 2014 Infiniti G37 headed for Detroit Auto Show reveal

Next-gen Infiniti G sedan spy shot - camouflaged

According to Cars UK, the next-generation Infiniti G37 sedan will likely debut at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show next January. We recently spied working prototypes of the new Infiniti out testing, and despite being slathered in camouflage, we have a good idea of how the company's new BMW 3 Series rival will look. Sort of.

The new G will indeed have a more rakish, curvy body, taking many of its cues from the stunning Emerg-E concept that first debuted at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. We can clearly see LED lighting up front, as well as some new lighting elements adhered to the car's rump, as well.

Currently, the only engine offered in the G range is the 3.7-liter naturally aspirated V6, but that's expected to change. Earlier reports have suggested that a wide range of new engines could be fitted under the G's hood, including a diesel powerplant that comes as part of Renault-Nissan's partnership with Daimler. A turbocharged engine and hybrid model could be in the works, as well.

We'll likely have more details after the turn of the year, if not sooner. Stay tuned.

ETC: Mini continues relentless expansion into... boating?

Mini Cooper Convertible boat

With 11 variants available, it's easy to think Mini has already covered almost every possible automotive segment it could. Almost. There's still no Mini pickup truck, no Mini cement mixer, no Mini minivan. And, until now, no seafaring Mini.

But hold off on those Mini-themed life jackets, Admiral. This is one Cooper you probably won't see cruising around your local marina. The Mini Convertible boat is a one-off promotional vehicle commissioned by the Mini USA Eastern Region dealer network for their "Motor-Tober Not Normal Sales Event."

"We challenged our regional staff and the dealers in their respective areas to identify 'Not Normal' ways to celebrate this Motor-Tober by engaging the Mini community and demonstrate why it's an exciting brand family to be part of," said Tom Salkowsky, Marketing Manager for Mini USA.

The craft will have its official launch this weekend at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Fred Schoch, executive director of the race, says the Mini boat will be the first car allowed to float during the race. The craft will be piloted by a member of the regatta's River Control Committee to monitor rowers' safety. Which, we suppose, also makes the Mini boat the regatta's first pace car.

If you're surprised that the Mini boat didn't arrive with a more clever name, just remember: Yachtsman's already taken. For more information on the Mini Convertible boat, check out the press release below.
