Video: Grand Theft Auto V gameplay trailer has us taking Sept. 17 off work

"This video was captured entirely from in-game footage." That's the sentence that follows the all-new Grand Theft Auto V trailer released today - one that gamers have been waiting on for months now. The previews have certainly whet our appetites, but this mini walk-through composed of gameplay footage has us convinced that GTAV will be a must-buy when it hits shelves on September 17.

In the following video (fair warning, there's some mild explicit language), we're told just exactly how deep and broad the experience is in this latest iteration of the Rockstar Games mega franchise. Game mechanics - including those for driving, riding, sailing and flying the huge complement of vehicles - have been streamlined and refined, and the graphics look better than ever, too. Vehicle customization is an option for this new GTA, too, though it's unclear if the mods will go beyond wheels and paint.

Not strictly a driving game, for sure; we still think the trailer below looks great and predict the upcoming game is going to be a huge hit when it drops this fall.

Lancia Stratos Petrolicious video

"Lancia Stratos." Say the words, and anyone with an enthusiast bone in their body will proceed to go googly-eyed and giddy at the hearing. The cars were built during the golden age of the World Rally Championship to do precisely one thing: win. In order to do that, Lancia had to build a handful of "street" cars to meet homologation rules at the time. Automotive history would never quite be the same.

Petrolicious recently spent some time with Phillip Toledano and his beautiful blue Stratos to find out what it's like to own a car expressly designed to kill you. Toledano uses phrases like "weapons grade," "invasive surgery," and "barking mad." We wouldn't expect anything less. As usual, the video is drop dead gorgeous, and watching the car bolt through the New York countryside is the stuff of day dreams. Duck below, press play and take a deep breath.

Red Bull technical chief Adrian Newey has attacked the 'short-sightedness' of the teams that blocked Pirelli's recent attempt to change the tyres for the crisis Formula 1 is now facing. Pirelli had hoped to change the internal structure of its tyres from a steel belt to one made of Kevlar from the Canadian Grand Prix to try and eradicate the delamination issues that occurred in the opening few races. But Force India, Lotus and Ferrari were reluctant to accept the modification, which needed unanimous approval, amid concerns that the change to the tyres could affect their competitiveness.

Pirelli denies conflict with F1 teams

Pirelli has moved to dismiss suggestions that it is in fresh conflict with the teams, despite claiming that it was how outfit's used their tyres that caused the Silverstone failures. Following investigations into the causes of the British Grand Prix blow-outs, Pirelli believes a combinations of teams swapping left and right hand side tyres, plus running pressures too low with aggressive camber choices, caused the incidents

BMW confirms production i3 will be revealed July 29

BMW i3 production version teaser image - video screencap

BMW is apparently planning to market its first-ever mass-produced electric vehicle with a commercial that looks an awful lot like a Gap ad. The German automaker is trying to appeal to the fashion-model set with a new 53-second video that announces the July 29 unveiling of its upcoming i3 EV.

"It's time to learn a new German word: Vorfreude" ("anticipation" in English), reads lettering over slick music and happy, skinny people showing off their comfortable yet stylish duds. As for the car? Well, we're pretty much limited to the silhouette you see above and the teaser text announcing the reveal date. But, of course, we've already seen many prototype versions over the years as well as these recent spy shots. You can see the pre-production car in the galleries and then check out the apparent fashion commercial below.

The i3 will go on sale later this year in both pure electric and EV with range-extending engine versions. We learned a lot about the car late last year and should get more information on the rollout later this month.

2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA250 configurator fires up

Mercedes-Benz CLA250 configurator

Mercedes-Benz is launching its entry-level CLA-Class in the United States this fall, and you can now build the small, swoopy sedan of your dreams using the automaker's online configurator. Right now, your choices are limited to the front-wheel-drive CLA250 model, though Mercedes-Benz will be offering the CLA with 4Matic all-wheel drive not long after, as well as the hotter-than-hot CLA45 AMG.

On the base end, the CLA250 starts at $30,825 (including $925 for destination), but things can move up quickly from there. A total of 10 color choices are available, including the Universe Blue Metallic ($720) you see above, and three different wheel options are available, measuring 17 inches on the base end (pictured), and 18 inches as you move upmarket.

Specific options include a $2,000 sport package, which gets you an added kick of aggressive styling, and things like a panoramic sunroof ($1,480) and a lighting package with xenon headlamps and LED taillamps ($850). Inside, there's a leather upholstery package available ($1,500), as well as the usual premium and multimedia packages ($2,200 and $2,370, respectively). Tick every option, and you'll run a few grand shy of $50,000. Woof.

Head over to Mercedes' website to build your very own CLA250.

The Mercedes driver had been called up by the officials when he was reported for not taking proper heed of yellows in the Loop section mid-race. Official: Holden claims new 'Ring lap time record for trucks [w/video]

Holden Ute 'Ring record run - video screencapGeneral Motors' thunder from Down Under, Holden, is claiming a new lap record at the Nürburgring... in the commercial and utility vehicle segment. You see, the company's amusingly powerful Ute is technically classified as a Class NA Light Goods Vehicle, so despite its car platform, one can technically argue that it's a commercial pickup truck. Kinda sorta.

In any case, Holden recently brought its new VF SS Redline Ute to the 'Ring, and the company's dynamics engineer, Rob Trubiani, posted a lap time of 8:19.47. Sure, this means the Ute is at the top of the pickup class at the Green Hell, but it's only the third vehicle of its kind (sort of) to run the 'Ring. Previously, pickup lap times have been performed in the Dodge Ram SRT10 and the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor... and that's about it.

Thankfully, Holden captured the event on camera, and regardless of how you feel about the vehicle's classification in the pickup segment, you should check out the 349-horsepower Ute's 'Ring run in the video below. It's worth watching, if only because it's a very nicely narrated lap that might help you with your Gran Turismo strategy. The full press blast is found just beyond that, as well.

What?s the Point?

As I’ve said multiple times, the goal of everyone at the Golden Gate Racing team this year is the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West Championship. So after winning three straight races, and gaining the points lead by rebounding from an 18 points deficit after the second race, we felt it was time to start points racing, and being a little more conservative. The biggest points race we have all year is Sonoma. Generally with 30+ cars showing up, and the majority of them racing only the one event, the race can get tricky — and nerve-wracking for any driver competing for the championship. We came in to the race weekend with more momentum than ever and a lot of practice time at the track on iRacing, where I could even [...]

Citroen and Sebastien Loeb to enter WTCC in 2014

You didn't think that Sébastien Loeb was just going to completely give up racing altogether, did you? Sure, the dynamic French driver may have decided to call it quits in the World Rally Championship with nothing left to prove (he did, after all, thoroughly dominated the sport from 2003 through 2012 and won the Driver's Championship each of those nine years), but the draw of competition is apparently too great to ignore.

Citroën - the automaker Loeb won each of his nine WRC championships with - has officially announced that it is entering the World Touring Car Championship with their favorite driver in 2014. Citroën CEO Frédéric Banzet cites "extensive media coverage, regulations that keep costs down and a genuinely global race calendar" that will "help [Citroën] to develop the brand in promising growth markets such as China, Russia and South America" as reasons for entering. The team will be sponsored by the automaker's longtime partner, Total.

There's not much more to the press release below, but it's there if you're interested in taking a look.
