Report: Jeremy Clarkson to narrate Forza 4

jeremy clarksonJeremy Clarkson is coming to an Xbox near you. The Top Gear presenter has reportedly joined forces with Turn 10 Studios to lend his voice and automotive knowledge to the company's upcoming Forza 4 video game.

There's a portion of Forza 4 called AutoVista, which is an in-game showroom where players can examine cars in great detail. Clarkson provides commentary in this area of the game, giving players his voiced-over viewpoint on specific cars.

We can only hope and assume that the commentary will include some of Jezza's trademark catchphrases like "...in the world." Regardless, adding Clarkson only rounds out the amount of Top Gear goodies found in the new game, all of which should be enough to have at least a few Sony PS3 owners considering making the switch to Microsoft's Xbox 360.

Ferrari has confirmed that the FIA was able to extract the mandatory one litre of fuel required for post-race checks from Fernando Alonso's car after the race. Alonso was told to stop by the team on the slowing down lap because he was low on fuel - and if the minimum amount required could not be extracted then he could have risked disqualification from the event. However, after his Ferrari was returned to the pits, Ferrari said that it passed FIA checks - and there was no issue either from the governing body about him not being able to complete the slowing down lap.

Volkswagen Touareg on the Pan American Highway

Volkswagen can now lay claim to another world record thanks to the efforts of off-road driver Rainer Zietlow and his team of adventurers. The crew packed into a Volkswagen Touareg TDI and covered the entire span of the Pan-American Highway from start to finish in 11 days, 17 hours and 22 minutes. The trip covered 14 countries and 16,000 miles of near non-stop driving. TÜV NORD Mobility verified the time, which beat out the previous record holder by a full three days.

The journey began on July 2 in the southernmost portion of Argentina and clipped through a variety of challenging conditions. The team faced a sandstorm in Chile and treacherous muddy roads in Alaska, but preplanned fuel stops helped cut the team's time down as much as possible.

Zietlow and his teammates also played a bit of a philanthropic role by donating 10 cents for every kilometer traveled to two Latin American villages to help combat childhood poverty. Hit the jump for the video and full press release.

Suzuki delighted with Bautista?s race

Suzuki team boss Paul Denning says Alvaro Bautista's seventh place in Germany was an important step forward and shows that the squad is getting closer to the lead pace. Bautista defeated the two factory Ducatis to take the position, behind the four factory-specification Hondas and the two works Yamahas - defeat having been left battered by a heavy crash in the warm-up. "I think we showed this weekend at Sachsenring - a track that has traditionally been very tough for Suzuki - that both the GSV-R and the rider have made good steps in 2011 - despite the bad luck and huge injury at the start of the season," Denning said

Mortara takes Munich win

Edoardo Mortara took a surprise victory on the opening day of the DTM's Show Event in Munich's Olympic Stadium. The Italian, who is competing in his rookie season in the championship, was superb in the day's Superfinal - which was run over a pair of five-lap races, each including a mandatory pitstop. After losing the first race to Bruno Spengler by a hundredth of a second, Mortara took his old-spec Team Rosberg Audi to victory next time round and beat the Mercedes man by 0.3s overall

Asphalt 6: Adrenaline on the Sony XPERIA Play smartphone

Curse you, Sony Ericsson. Because of Asphalt 6: Adrenaline on the new Sony XPERIA Play, my productivity is down. Considerably. In the last two weeks, I've managed to start out with a Mustang GT and race my way to more than $4.2 million in cash reserves and a garage filled with a tricked-out Porsche 911, a couple Ferraris, a Lamborghini Estoque (one of my favorites for drifting) and the workmanlike Nissan GT-R, to name a few. As you probably suspect, none of it is real, not even the crazy Ducati motorcycle.

This is what happens when you play a good driving game, and I have towering pillars of unfinished assignments surrounding me in the real world to prove it. I don't own a console, and I don't have any plans to change that. Instead, this test-drive of the new XPERIA Play smartphone proves that a home-based gaming system is so 1988. This smartphone is a great companion for the gadget-savvy car lover who loves games and tech.

Report: 12-year-old girl crashes stolen pickup, takes out town's power

Pikangikum Police

12-year-old kids looking to jump behind the wheel should stick to go-karts and video games. Or maybe empty fields. Otherwise, things don't usually end well, as was the case for a preteen girl in Pikangikum, Ontario.

The 12-year-old reportedly swiped the family pickup truck, then loaded it up with ten friends: three 10-year-olds, three 13-year-olds, three 14-year-olds and one 21-year-old.

When police tried to intervene, the girl sped away. Out of safety concerns for the young driver and her passengers, officers elected not to pursue. She wound up crashing anyway. All parties fled the scene, and luckily, it appears no one was seriously injured. Unfortunately, everyone in Pikangikum was inconvenienced as a result.

You see, the truck smashed into a utility pole, knocking out the town's power. Charges are pending against the young joyrider.

Nick Heidfeld is adamant Renault is ready to take a big step forward that allows the team to return to fighting with the top squads in the next few races. Although Renault started the season strongly, its performance has dropped in recent races, and the team has decided to evaluate a more conventional exhaust system after having used the forward-facing one so far. The team will run the new system in one car during Friday practice for the German Grand Prix to evaluate its performance.

The JX will join the svelte EX and FX models in Infiniti's crossover range, but offer seven seats in a larger package. This second teaser of the taillight and part of the left flank follows the previous front-end crop and the profile rendering that preceded it, showing us that little bit more as Nissan's luxury division prepares to take a bigger chunk out of Lexus in the premium family hauler game.

Video: CHiPs veteran Erik Estrada warns Californians to avoid Carmageddon

Erik Estrada Carmageddon PSA
Erik Estrada Carmageddon PSA - Click above to watch the videos after the jump

Residents of the metropolitan Los Angeles area have been bracing for what's been dubbed Carmageddon. No, not the video game from the late '90s, but the scheduled closure of Interstate 405 over the course of this weekend.

The temporary shutdown of the hugely busy 10-mile stretch of highway is being effected so that it can be widened to ease traffic congestion, including the demolition and reconstruction of the Mulholland Bridge and the addition of a carpool lane.

Such a big move obviously needs to be brought to public attention, and to that end, Caltrans - the California Department of Transportation - brought in no less suitable a celebrity than Erik Estrada, best known for his role as California Highway Patrol officer Frank Poncharello on the TV show CHiPs. Estrada reportedly did the Public Service Announcements for free in English and Spanish, both of which you can view after the jump (we snuck in a video of the CHiPs intro sequence for you nostalgic types, too).
