Grosjean optimistic of top result

Romain Grosjean is optimistic of another frontrunning performance for the Lotus team at this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix. The Frenchman believes that the twisty Hungaroring will play perfectly to the strengths of the team's E20, which has previously shown strong pace on slow circuits earlier this season. "It can be a good weekend for us and the circuit has similar characteristics to Montreal and Monaco, where we were competing quite well," said the Frenchman.

The stewards eventually decided to take no action just ahead of the race , and after Fernando Alonso's victory Domenicali revealed that he had warned his team not to pay any attention to the matter.

M Performance Makes Another Case For Itself

2012 BMW M135i

Here is a sign that (1) BMW is still intent on having fun with its ultimate driving machines and (2) it realized quickly that it got it wrong on the 1 Series hatchback redesign and needed to dress it up, literally, to save face. Whatever the justification for its existence, this M135i three-door hatch is as close to outrageously fantastic as the recently decommissioned 1M Coupe.

The new hatch comes with BMW's turbocharged N55 direct-injection 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine producing 315 horsepower at 5,800 rpm - just 20 fewer horses than that 1M Coupe - and exactly the same torque rating of 332 pound-feet between 1,300 and 4,500 rpm. Plus, the M135i weighs a precious 120 pounds less than the 1M, even when carrying the eight-speed Steptronic sport automatic (155 pounds less with the six-speed manual).

Among top-tier hot Euro hatches like this, the M135i is the first one on the field, to be followed by the future Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG, next Audi RS3 and hopefully a worthy MkVII successor to the Volkswagen Golf R32 legacy. Nothing says "niche" like a high-priced 300-hp hatchback, so it's a fool's game. And we feel foolish.

Spy Shots: BMW Z4 nip/tuck spotted

BMW Z4 spy shots

If you thought that the addition of a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four would suffice as a mid-cycle refresh for the charming BMW Z4 roadster, think again. We've driven - and enjoyed - the new four-pot mill that speaks to both performance and efficiency, but as evidenced by this latest set of spy shots, some minimal tweaks are indeed in store for Bavaria's little droptop.

And minimal they are. The only camouflage to be found on this prototype are on the headlamps, taillamps, and spaces where the side indicators would normally reside. For its mid-cycle enhancement, BMW will be incorporating the side indicators into the mirrors, and the camouflage at the fore and aft light clusters suggests that some new lamps will be incorporated into the design. Don't expect too much to change at the rear, but up front, BMW's "angel eyes" will likely take on a similar (read: squarer) shape akin to what's available on the new 3 Series, trimmed with LED eyeliner.

We won't rule out the possibility of some powertrain tweaks or perhaps even some massaging to the front fascia, but until we have any sort of hard evidence, rest assured this German roadster won't be changing too much in its current lifecycle.

Minnesota inventor's pickup side step - video screencap

One Minnesota inventor may have just created a better bed step.

While Ford offers a pickup bed step that slides out of the top of the tailgate on its F-150, that particular step can't be used when towing. Now, one man has devised his own step that slides out of the side of the tailgate.

Myron Isaacson recently received the patent on his pickup bed ladder, affectionately named "My Dream Steps," according to a local news report.

It works in a similar manner as the Ford bed step, allowing a person to climb into a high pickup bed without grinding their knees against the truck's steel. Because this step works from the side of the tailgate, Isaacson's invention allows the truck owner to climb into the bed even if the truck has a trailer attached. The new assembly looks pretty compact and easy to use, and he's already won an award for its design. At this year's Minnesota Inventors Congress, Isaacson netted a gold medal.

Check out the video below to see it in action on Isaacson's Ford.

Chevrolet Introduces Love It or Return It Policy for All 2012 and 2013 Models

How does one define love? For some, such as the Tin Man, that feeling is elusive and nebulous. For others, like, say, Steve Carell?s intelligence-challenged character Brick Tamland from the movie Anchorman, it?s as simple as loving a lamp and assorted office furniture. Chevrolet apparently has skewed towards the Brick Tamlands of this world with [...]

License Levels and Promotions

Many people who join iRacing seem to treat license progression in as a “gaming” aspect, with the primary objective of the “game” being to increase your license level and move up the license ladder to race in another series in order to get promoted to the next level so you can increase your license and move up the license ladder to race in another series in order to get promoted to the next level . . . and so on. The problem with this approach is that soon you’re in way over your head because you’re suddenly racing in cars and series that exceed your true skill level, and you’re not able to be competitive because you’ve been too focused on license progression and not focused enough on racing and [...]

Video: Did Fiat just reveal the new 500T in its new commercial?

Fiat 500T? -

Fiat may have given us all an early glimpse of its upcoming 500T in a new ad. The Italian automaker has just released a new one-minute commercial called "Immigrants" showing a flotilla of submarine 500 models working their way from Italy to New York via the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. Once the quirky little hatches show up on U.S. shores, something interesting makes an appearance. A 500 wearing Abarth body lines and Sport trim wheels comes rocketing around a corner.

We've heard plenty of buzz about a new 500T model designed to slot below the Abarth in the 500 stable, but it's unclear exactly what that machine will look like when it bows. It's entirely possible the commercial's producers simply had to swap a set of wheels after an incident on set and that this isn't what it seems to be, but we're guessing it's an intentional split-second teaser. Either way, it's worth taking a closer look at the video below.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration documents revealed in early April that Fiat is planning to flesh out its 500 line, and that new model called the 500T Sport was part of that mix. Details have been scarce since then, but a model with Abarth-like power and a slightly lower profile would seem to make some sense, as there's a pretty decent $pread between a base $15,500 500 Pop and the $22,000 Abarth.
