Community Board 9 Endorses Car-Free Park Trial, Reverses Committee Vote

Manhattan Community Board 9 became the latest to endorse a car-free Central Park trial last night. By a vote of 32-9 with five abstentions, the board overwhelmingly overturned the 2-1 vote of its transportation committee, which had been the only committee in the borough not to endorse the plan thus far.

Waltrip hopes for Le Mans return

Two-time Daytona 500 winner Michael Waltrip says he would 'love' to return to the Le Mans 24 Hours after an eventful first outing at La Sarthe in a AF Corse-run Ferrari 458. The 48-year-old American, who shared a GTE AM car with Portuguese driver Rui Aguas and rookie Robert Kauffman, was forced to retire from the race after 178 laps with a differential failure but described the experience as being like nothing he had seen before in racing. "It's just amazing," he told AUTOSPORT.

Winterbottom denies Whincup pole

Ford Performance Racing's Mark Winterbottom beat championship leader Jamie Whincup (Triple Eight Holden) to pole position for the first of this weekend's races at Darwin's Hidden Valley Raceway. The top 10 shoot-out qualifying system is back in use this weekend, and after going quickest in the opening part of qualifying, Winterbottom was the last man out in the pole session - going on to edge out Whincup by just 0.01 seconds. Stone Brothers' Shane van Gisbergen registered his best qualifying result of 2011 so far in third, sharing row two with Dick Johnson Ford driver Steven Johnson.
