Proton set for BTCC return

The Proton name is set to return to the British Touring Car Championship in the summer thanks to ambitious plans by independent squad Welch Motorsport. The team plans to enter an NGTC-spec version of the Malaysian manufacturer's Gen-2 model, which will be powered by the TOCA engine. Dan Welch, a race-winner in both the SEAT Cupra Cup UK and last season in the Leon Eurocup in a car run by his family's team, will give the car its debut during the second half of the season, and possibly as early as the Snetterton round in August.
