Toyota set for pole amid confusion

Toyota looks certain to have taken pole position for Sunday's opening round of the World Endurance Championship at Silverstone. A timing system glitch means that no official times have been issued after qualifying, but Toyota is confident that its #7 TS030 HYBRID shared by Nicolas Lapierre and Alex Wurz claimed the pole in a 20-minute prototype session held in changeable conditions. The timing problems followed the switch to a new aggregate system of qualifying under which the grid is determined by the average best two lap times of two drivers in each car.
